How was your new single born? What is enough for me? Is there anything biographical in the story you are telling?
Me and Max D’Ambra, who wrote the lyrics and music with me That’s enough for mewe usually go into the room and start writing down ideas. In this case, I wanted to tell a love story that had gone well up to a certain point, and then he got sucked into something new thinking it was better, but then he realized it wasn’t. Then he comes back and apologizes to his beloved. Obviously, it’s a story with a happy ending, but it doesn’t always have a happy ending. And I also wanted to emphasize that in the video where you see this half Joker and half man face, because when you hide something you can’t be good until the end, sooner or later something falls out.
Yes, there is something biographical, as always in the songs I write.
That’s enough for me It’s a tropical sounding song, to dance to: why this choice, given that it’s new for you?
In fact, I come from a more demanding music. But for some time now, Max D’Ambra and I have decided to explore this new world, not exactly a slogan, but one that tells a story, with the idea of reaching more people, young and old. The intention is to send a message through the lightness of musicality.
Speaking of video, your partner is Mario Cusitore from Men and women: How did you find your work with him? Did you already know him?
Actually, Mario Cusitore and I are friends. So when he finished his trip to Men and womenwe met at a meeting with friends and one of them said to him: ‘Why don’t you do the video with Anna who is releasing her new single?’. I already had in mind to involve him. We talked about it and he was enthusiastic about the idea and accepted. Mario is not an actor, but I asked him to shoot the video, not only because he has a beautiful face, but so that he could explore the world of theater and become passionate about it, also because by studying he could do it professionally.
Is there a lot of chemistry between you in the video?
Maybe because we are very good friends.
What music do you listen to?
I listen to all genres of music, from classical to techno, from rock to opera. I listen to a lot of music, even different from what I do.
As a vocal coach, which Italian artist do you currently find the most innovative?
There are many artists, each with their own particularity. So, vocally, I think Elodie is very advanced, as well as Annalisa who has been very precise since the time of Friends. I would say both are excellence right now.
In addition to being a singer-songwriter, you are also an actress: we saw you at the Venice Film Festival. Can you tell us about this experience?
(Laughs, editor’s note) Venice came suddenly. It’s every actress’ dream to be there, but I wanted to present myself on the red carpet in the simplest way possible, with a light outfit and makeup. There was an incredible atmosphere. I went to the Festival because this year is the 30th anniversary of Massimo Troisi’s death. I have a special bond with him. In fact, I started my acting career thanks to him. As a child, I was on the beach in Procida with my parents, Troisi was looking for a little girl for his film and I was chosen. I was 10 years old, maybe even younger. That was the beginning of my career, then I became passionate about this world. There are some photos, taken by my mother, where I study the play. To tell you that I also really like the back of the lens and also for my video I contributed to its creation.
What memories do you have of Troisi?
He was a special man, everything he did had a special light in his eyes. I didn’t understand then because I was little, then I understood with time that he knew he was sick and that he had little time. In my opinion, there are few like him. Troisi was great, he had the gift of improvisation.
You are working on the musical comedy of Sea outside: Is this an experience you enjoy?
Absolutely yes, for me it is like a light. What fascinates me is that Alessandro Siani has brought together many extraordinary souls, both on and off stage. For me, before being an actor or actress, you have to be great men and women. There are many very young people in the cast and Siani has made everyone understand, even those with little experience, the importance of the “we” rather than the “I”, because that is the strong point of a theatrical family.
Musicals allow you to be a singer and an actress: in which role do you feel most comfortable?
Actually, musical comedy, as the word itself says, is an art form that allows you to dance and act. So for me it’s a natural fit.
Who is your favorite film or theater artist?
I think that in Italy we have many very good actors and actresses. I really like Vittoria Puccini, Anna Valle… There are many, not to mention the great divas like Anna Magnani. Among the actors certainly Massimiliano Gallo with whom I worked for 20 years in the theater, Lino Guanciale. However, there are many good artists.
Beyond Sea outsideAre you working on any other new projects?
A lot of music, I always write with Max D’Ambra and then as mentioned there will be a lot of theater. So who knows what will happen… The participation in Venice was also unexpected.
